The collection details Leila Mize's extension service and interest in history through paperwork, correspondence, articles and essays. Located within Mrs. Mize's papers are detailed early twentieth century recipes designed to teach rural women effective methods for canning and pickling the produce grown on their family farms along with suggestions for how these women could improve their family's live through projects such as growing flowers for profit. Also of special interest is a folder featuring numerous obituaries relating to the 1934 death of Andrew Soule, former president of the Georgia State College of Agriculture.

A contemporary of Mary Ethel Creswell, Leila Ritchie Mize enrolled in the University of Georgia in 1918, the first year the school was opened to female students, and went on to complete a B.S. degree in Home Economics in 1924 and a M.S. degree in Home Economics in 1930.
